Ingredients
- Triple Sec¾ oz
- Tequila1 ¾ oz
- Salt(optional)
- Lime Juice½ oz
Ingredient substitutions
No exact bottle on the shelf? These swaps keep Margarita close to the original.
Instead of Triple Sec
- Cointreau— smoother and drier
- Grand Marnier— richer, cognac-based
Instead of Tequila
- Mezcal— adds smoke
- Reposado Tequila— rounder, lightly oaked
Instead of Lime Juice
- Lemon Juice— softer citrus
Instructions
Rub the rim of the glass with the lime slice to make the salt stick to it.
Take care to moisten only the outer rim and sprinkle the salt on it.
The salt should present to the lips of the imbiber and never mix into the cocktail.
Shake the other ingredients with ice.
Then carefully pour into the glass.
Pairs well with
The salt rim sets the theme — go bold with zesty Mexican street food:
- Chips and salsa verde
- Chicken taquitos
- Jalapeño poppers
- Street corn esquites
